Nacogdoches is definitely on the top of our list, and worth at least a weekend visit. There are also plenty of shops in downtown, and two wineries nearby.

  • Nacogdoches – Dubbed the oldest town in Texas, Nacogdoches is full of historic sites throughout the small town.
  • The Texas State Railroad makes a stop in Palestine if you are looking for a relaxing way to see the piney woods. Careful of the hours of the downtown area as it is limited. There is a fairly large historic district with a cool downtown area that has a coffee shop and brewery.
  • Palestine – Palestine puts the ! on the beauty of the piney woods.

    Nearby Lake Gladewater is beautiful and a fun place to kayak. If you love shopping and antiques, it is a great place to stop for a Saturday visit. Gladewater – Gladewater is the “antique capital of Texas”.Enoch’s Stomp Winery is not too far away if you are looking for wine. There is also a river tour by boat or you can launch your own kayak. The downtown area is packed with unique shops and great restaurants. It has an expansive historical downtown area with organized tours.     While the region is mainly known for its tall pines, scenic lakes, and rolling hills, East Texas is also filled with many quaint small towns that offer great shopping, food, and historic homes and museums. It was a great day trip, the atmosphere was peaceful, our surroundings were beautiful, and I’m now looking forward to checking out the other wineries on this trail!įeatured image photo source: Texas or the “Piney Woods” has been one of our favorite Texas travel destinations for over ten years. Everything was delicious.Įnoch was a wonderful experience and would be highly recommended. Wine, music, and cheese makes for one happy girl! So we ordered a meat and cheese plate, crab cakes, and a couple of pizzas for the table. Wine and live music makes for one happy girl! Enoch offers live music every Friday and Saturday night starting at 6:30 pm. We moved inside when the live music started. Here we are, happy with our life decisions for the day. We agreed that the Blanc Du Bots Off-Dry and Norton were our favorites! We opted to sit outside and try their dry wine flights. The winery was split between the Tasting Room and “pub fare” restaurant and a more formal restaurant (pictured above) in a lodge cabin. The drive took less than an hour each way and the weather was our first cool taste of fall. Tyler and I hopped in the car with our friends, Zach and Jessie, and hit the road. The beautiful wine trails in the Texas Hill Country (located in the south and central parts of the state) have been dubbed the “next Napa,” but this was my first time visiting any of the wineries in the east.Įnoch’s was a delightful choice for a relaxing Saturday. In the last decade or so, Texas wineries have boomed. A recommendation from a friend, Enoch’s is an adorable hidden gem in the middle of the 20-winery Piney Woods Wine Trail. Saturday evening was spent in Harleton, a little east Texas town (population 2,395) at Enoch’s Stomp Winery and Vineyard.
